Music for the Uninvited
The British producer Leon Vynehall says that Music for the Uninvited was inspired by the sound of the tape deck in his mother's car, and it sounds like it; his take on house music is cozy as a two-seater and warm as sunlight through a rose-tinted windshield. Moodymann's influence looms large over Vynehall's soulful, sample-heavy style, in which scraps of vocals flutter like rags over jazz licks and busted-up drum grooves, while the string-led "Inside the Deku Tree" recalls Floating Points and Metro Area.
