Lines, Vines and Trying Times
Disquera: Republic Records
At least two qualities are necessary for Disney success: wholesomeness and versatility. Both need to be carefully balanced so that kids adore you and parents not only approve but can stand you. The Jonas Brothers display both qualities in spades on their fourth album, a genre-jumping melange of country (some of it featuring Miley!), puberty-voiced pop-rock (much of it an alt '90s vein) and a lot of Chicago-meets-Stevie-Wonder's-harmonica-oeuvre adult-contempo. But the track that will blow minds is "Don't Charge Me for the Crime," a dark rumination on hard choices featuring Common (no, really).
