This compiles grimy, hiccupping rock tracks recorded in the mid-'50s -- including a bunch with "lonesome" or "train" in their titles -- from Memphis greasers who hit hard like the Golden Glove boxers they were. Brownsville-born fuzztone progenitor Paul Burlison had been mixing up country and blues with the Burnette brothers since before rockabilly had a name, and you can feel it in the depth of their sound. Pinnacle: The incomparably nasty, baseball-bat-wielding two-sided 1956 single "Train Kept A-Rollin'"/"Honey Hush," which metal bands were still trying to pull off decades later.
